Mrs. Lydia deSambourg

Lydia deSambourg is in her 11th year as the Director of Choral and Dramatic Activities for the Jessieville School District. She teaches 6th Grade Chorus, Jr. Chorale (7th/8th), Middle School Drama, High School Concert Choir, Music Theory, Music Appreciation, and Theatre Appreciation.  Lydia came to Jessieville after hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed her home and music studio.  She has been married to her husband, Chuck, for 32 years and has three daughters and three grandchildren.

Lydia graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in Music Education.  She has studied vocal music at Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Central Arkansas, McNeese State University, Harding University and City College of Chicago. She also has her Kindermusik certification and the first level of certification in Kodaly Music Methodology.  In New Orleans, Lydia owned Do-Re-Mi, Studio of Musical Arts where she taught piano, voice, and Kindermusik.  Prior to opening her own studio, Lydia taught Pre-K through 8th-grade general music, choral music, and creative drama at Arden Cahill Academy for 5 years.  She also spent three years in Hanau, Germany where she taught piano, voice, dance, (tap, ballet, jazz) and was the Children's Musical Theatre Director for the Five Pfenning Playhouse.

While in New Orleans, Lydia was the lead vocalist for the New Orleans Blends and an occasional guest vocalist for A Cappella New Orleans.  She has performed locally as a guest vocalist for the Hot Springs Village Big Band and the Stardust Big Band.  Although classically trained, Lydia has developed a love for all genres of vocal music, especially musical theatre.

Lydia is very excited about being a part of the Jessieville School District and is thankful that her tragedy turned into such a wonderful blessing.  She is grateful for the opportunity to promote the Choral Music and Theatre programs at Jessieville and hopes to provide Jessieville, Hot Springs Village, and Hot Springs communities with outstanding musical performances in the years to come.
